Biography

Prof Irfan Ahmed is a Consultant Surgeon specializing in complex liver, pancreas and bile duct diseases with a specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and the development of modern surgical innovations. He has pioneered various special techniques in Virtual Scarless surgery and introduced these techniques worldwide. He is faculty for various international courses and teach advanced laparoscopic skills to the surgeons and is also involved in developing telemedicine & telementoring for young surgeons using modern technologies. He completed his higher degree (MD) at the University of Leeds working with an internationally renowned team researching organ preservation and did pioneering work on cold liver preservation techniques while developing a novel liver preservation solution. His work was funded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England via a research fellowship. He holds academic appointments at the University of Aberdeen as a senior lecturer and clinical tutor at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a visiting Professor in Robert Gordon University and part of the court of examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Joint Committee of Intercollegiate Examinations in the UK.

Research Interest

He has extensive experience in research and leads various research groups collaborating with the international institutions. With a broad research base, He has published in all aspects of his areas of clinical interest. With more than 100 peer review publications (book chapters, review, editorials, original articles etc) and more than 100 scientific presentations, he remains on the forefront of latest surgical developments and innovations. I have received a number of awards throughout his career including 5 medals, merit scholarships and various presentation awards on national and international forums.
